Sharp increase in new covid-19 cases in Västra Götaland
The number of confirmed cases of covid-19 is increasing. Last week, 1,371 new cases were identified, almost double the number the week before.
The spread of the infection is found throughout Västra Götaland; in Gothenburg and surrounding municipalities, the increase is more marked.
Infection Control Västra Götaland’s infection control physician Thomas Wahlberg says that the expansion of society is increasing in Västra Götaland.
– We see many different outbreaks and there is a general increase throughout the region, says Thomas Wahlberg.
In workplaces, in schools, during parties, after work, in sports, at home, where people meet, covid-19 is also transmitted.
– I cannot emphasize enough the general recommendations. Stay home with the slightest cold symptoms, give it a try, stay away from others, avoid larger social contexts, don’t travel collectively if you don’t have to, and try to work from home if you can, says Thomas Wahlberg.
The need for hospital care for covid-19 is increasing. Yesterday, Monday, October 26, there were a total of 64 patients with covid-19 in hospitals in the Västra Götaland region. This is the highest number since the end of July.
Ann Söderström, director of health and medical care, says that care has a good ability to care for those who need care.
– But the staff has worked hard this spring and we may need to cancel planned care. Unfortunately, I think we will see more people who will need hospital care in the near future. I want to emphasize what the infection control doctor says: follow the recommendations. If we all help each other, we can slow the spread of the infection and reverse the trend, says Ann Söderström.
