Reigning 100m world champion Christian Coleman is suspended for two years and misses the Olympics. Announces the integrity unit of the International Athletics Federation, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU).
It was last summer that AIU rejected the 24-year-old for the time being for having broken down in his stay reports. Regulations say that three reporting failures within a year can lead to a two-year suspension.
American blamed one of his mistakes was that he was buying Christmas presents. An explanation that AIU did not buy. Coleman would have been available between 7.15pm and 8.15pm and, according to his own statement, he would have returned from Christmas shopping shortly before 8.15pm. The problem?
In the investigation that has been carried out, two cash receipts are used as evidence against him, printed at 7:53 p.m. at the Chipotle restaurant chain and at 8:22 p.m. at the Walmart chain of stores.
Coleman’s suspension will run until May 13, 2022, which means that, among other things, he will miss the postponed Summer Olympics in Tokyo next year. However, according to Reuters, Christian Coleman will appeal the verdict to the sports arbitration court, Cas. This is what his agent Emanuel Hudson says in a statement:
“The decision is unfortunate and will be appealed to Cas immediately. Mr. Coleman has nothing more to say until the matter is legally resolved.”
Just over a year ago took his first career World Cup gold when he won in a time of 9.76 seconds in Doha.
World 400m champion Salwa Eid Naser was acquitted last week of doping offenses for reporting errors in his stay. This after a technicality that went in favor of the 22-year-old Bahrain runner.
In 2018, Swedish running star Meraf Bahta was suspended for a year after submitting his stay report too late twice.
