More schools have been segregated in Sweden in the last ten years. This means that the majority of students in a school have similar backgrounds. Most of the foreign-born students go to some schools and most of the Swedish-born students go to other schools. There has been a worse mix of students in schools.
Trollhättan is one of the municipalities with the most segregated schools. 80 percent of schools are segregated, according to a poll by Swedish radio.
Trollhättan politicians now decided that two schools will close in the fall of 2021. It is Frälsegårdsskolan and the secondary and secondary school in Kronan school. They are located in the Kronogården district. Most of the students have foreign backgrounds and most of the parents have some education.
300 students will have to take a bus to schools in other districts of Trollhättan. It should make students from different backgrounds mix more in schools, politicians say. They believe that more students will have better success in school then.
These are the Social Democrats, The Left Party and the Green Party ruling in Trollhättan. The other parties also say yes. Except for the Swedish Democrats, who think it’s a bad plan.
Christer has children who continue Strömslundsskolan in Trollhättan. It is one of the schools where most of the students have a Swedish background. Christer says Strömlundsskolan is as segregated as schools that are closed. He thinks it’s good for students to get more involved in schools, he tells P4 Väst.
– I think we must start with the children to achieve this integration. So of course there will be difficulties in that too, but in the long run I think it will be good, says Christer.
Ismail Alija is 12 years old and is leaving at Kronan’s school. He has to change schools next fall. He doesn’t think he’s feeling good, he tells P4 Väst.
– It will be bad. You have to go to another school, make new friends and go a new way, says Ismail Alija.
Enes Vejseli is 12 years old and in Frälsegårdsskolan. It is also difficult for him to change schools. But he also thinks it can be good to meet new friends, he tells P4 Väst.
– It feels a bit difficult, but it also feels a bit fun, because you also meet new friends, says Enes Vejseli.
