GOTHENBURG. Before the group final, the Icelanders talked about the difference between the teams being mentality. He gave the Swedish team lighter fluid.

– To be honest, yes. “I think the mentality we have in Sweden is incredibly high and we show it today,” says Kosovar Asllani.

After defeating Iceland with a clear 2-0 at Gamla Ullevi, Sweden is set for the European Championship in England in 2022. One of the driving forces behind today’s effort was the Icelandic speech ahead.

– We have a different mentality and we know we can beat Sweden, said Icelandic superstar Sara Björk Gunnarsdottir the day before the match.

The Icelandic team captain was incredibly disappointed that they didn’t get a home win in Iceland. That match ended 1-1 and made the group final at Gamla Ullevi a thriller in advance.

“Totaldominerade”

– Iceland has talked a lot about their physical ability and mentality, but they probably never played against us in Ullevi. We knew we were underperforming in Iceland and had more levels to hit, and we show it today, says Kosovar Asllani and continues:

– We directly demonstrate that we dominate completely and we also get up in the melee game. I think we went out and showed today what national team we are and that we are usually the best when it comes to that.

Despite the team captain Caroline Seger starting off by saying she doesn’t read the media, she has absorbed the Icelandic approach.

– I got this from everyone else. If you’ve given the kit lighter fluid, it’s absolutely fantastic, he says.
