The man denies charges related to violations of the law on child circumcision, assault and serious bodily injury. The courtroom prosecutor will demand a prison sentence for the events that took place in 2018.
– Apart from not being competent, the circumcisions did not go well. Injuries and complications have arisen without sufficient pain relief and acceptable hygienic conditions and poor instruments have been used, said Elin Källberg, the court’s prosecutor, during the trial.
Used a welding gun
The defendant, who is in his 30s, is not a licensed physician and used a non-medical welding gun that he purchased from a store when performing the circumcisions, which were done at the request of the guardians. For this, he received SEK 2,000 from the vast majority of tutors.
The man himself claimed, however, that he has medical training in Syria and is therefore authorized to perform circumcisions, something he said he had done several times in Syria and Egypt with good results. And even these nine times he thinks it went well.
– I circumcised the children, everything went well, there were no complications or other reactions, then I gave instructions to the parents and left the place, said the defendant during the trial.
Doctors criticize
Doctors who met the boys after the procedures have stated, among other things, that they did not believe that a real surgeon would perform the procedures and that they were sloppy circumcisions. A couple of the children were described in medical records as being in so much pain that they had trouble walking.
– At times, children have been pushed down on the mattresses in order to carry out the procedures, says Martin Sjökvist, the plaintiff’s lawyer.
It demands that SEK 70,000 be paid to each of the nine children.
