Emilia, 20, was found dead in Vramsån in Tollarp, Skåne, on December 3, 2019. By then, she had been missing for eleven days.
The day after she was found, her 21-year-old childhood friend was arrested at her parents’ home.
The murder investigation has been going on for ten months and covers ten thousand pages. The 21-year-old has always been the prosecutor’s main clue as to who killed Emilia.
But there is no technical evidence linking the man both to the murder victim and to where the body was found.
When the trial continued Tuesday in Kristianstad District Court, defense attorney Melka Kjellberg saw the investigation in full.
The 21-year-old has admitted that he spent the night with Emilia at her Tollarp apartment, but the lawyer suggested that there were other people in the vicinity of Emilia during the time in question who had the opportunity to kill her.
So, for example, on the morning of the day she was reported missing, Emilia must have had text message contact with another man.
According to the lawyer, Emilia must also have given her contact information and where she lived to other people.
Uncertain evidence
– Emilia lived a life not entirely risk-free, the 21-year-old’s defender described it in the courtroom.
The attorney emphasized that there was no identified murder weapon, no witnesses, or a safe crime scene.
– There is also no background and there is no technical evidence in the form of blood or DNA, said Melka Kjellberg during her presentation of the case in the courtroom.
Next to her sat the 21-year-old, remarkably captivated by the attention and with his hands tied on the table.
According to the lawyer for the 21-year-old, it is also unclear what day Emilia was killed.
– The prosecutor has affirmed that it was November 22. But we have witnesses who claim to have seen her alive both one and several days later, says Melka Kjellberg.
According to Kristianstadsbladet, who reported from inside the courtroom on the second day of the trial, several people will be summoned to the trial to testify that they have just seen Emilia alive after the time the prosecutor declared that she was dead.
Bag found
In the case, there are several circumstances that make the 21-year-old suspicious. Among other things, a bag that belonged to the 21-year-old must have been found near the place where Emilia’s body was found.
According to the lawyer, the bag may have subsequently been placed on the ground to mislead the police.
Similarly, the murder suspect’s red jacket was found south of the E22 17 days after Emilia’s disappearance. Even in that case, the attorney believes it was postponed.
One of the most serious evidence is considered to be the wig that was later found in the 21-year-old’s home.
The wig belonged to Emilia, it was wet, and there were blades of grass on her scalp.
But the defense attorney does not believe that he links the 21-year-old to the place where Emilia was found.
– My client bought Emilia’s wig the week before she died.
The lawyer also points out that her client had no traces of blood on his clothes in connection with the arrest.
The trial will begin on Friday. The district court must then be in Tollarp to get a supposed view of the scene where the murder took place.
