“Through the investigation of the case, it is clear that these meetings have been part of an extensive intelligence operation targeting people of Tibetan descent,” the Södertörn District Court summarized the case in June 2018. After serving a prison term of one year and nine months, the man has been arrested at Säpos request.
The Swedish Migration Agency, as well as The Migration Appeal Court agreed with the Säpo that the man should be deported and, according to a decision made by GP, the government has the same opinion as the authorities. “The government rejects the appeal,” he says with the signature of Interior Minister Mikael Damberg.
The formal criminal classification, serious illegal intelligence activities, must have been completed by spying on Tibetan exiles in Stockholm and other parts of the country. The man, who is of Tibetan descent, is said to have relayed information about people’s housing, family relationships and trips to political gatherings to a secretary at the Chinese embassy in Warsaw, Poland.
