The Liseberg amusement park has been hit hard by the corona pandemic and will not have been open for a single day in 2020.
Since there will be no “Christmas in Liseberg”, the management decided not to light the giant Christmas tree either.
The cost of around SEK 400,000 was considered too expensive in the company’s situation.
– I did not think it was a cost that we could prioritize in the situation in which we found ourselves. But if we can be a light in the dark at the end of a very difficult year, we must prioritize otherwise. Liseberg should be a source of joy and really glad to see how much the park means to Gothenburgers, says Andreas Andersen, CEO of Liseberg, in a press release.
Offered to raise money
Liseberg writes in the press release that they have received many sad letters, emails and comments from Gothenburgers.
Some have offered to raise money that would equal the cost of lighting the Christmas tree.
However, Liseberg will not receive it, but it will change as far as the Christmas tree is concerned and it will be lit in mid-November and will be on until the thirteenth.
– I’d like to urge everyone to donate a sum of money instead to a charity that supports the vulnerable Gothenburgers at Christmas. I guess 400,000 would be a welcome addition to your coffers, Andreas Andersen says in the press release.
