Stricter prison sentence for rape of nine-year-old girl

The girl was found after being attacked by a man who was driving on the way to work. The driver saw “a girl who was muddy from head to toe, was crying and cutting herself.” She told me that she had been kidnapped and that the man had a knife.

The girl had gone home before school when she met the 39-year-old man who dragged her into a bush by the road where the driver found her. There she was beaten and raped.

The man was arrested shortly after raped by the police and sentenced to 11 years in prison by the Norrköping District Court. Both the prosecutor and the 39-year-old man appealed the verdict to the Court of Appeal.

Man has always denied wrongdoing.

The Göta Court of Appeal has already tried the case. The court has followed the prosecutor’s line that the man tried to kill the girl and sharpens the sentence to 14 years in prison.

According to the Court of Appeals, it has been found that the man took a strangulation on the girl’s neck while holding her mouth and putting his body weight on her. It continued for a “significant time” and the man must have realized that there was a risk that the girl would die, but that he was indifferent.

– The perpetrator has not been able to decide at what stage he would release the girl’s neck and mouth so that she does not risk dying and it seems a happy coincidence that the girl did not die, says Court of Appeal attorney Linda Hallstedt in a statement .

The Court of Appeal judges the man thus for attempted murder in lieu of aggravated assault, as well as kidnapping, aggravated child rape and assault in court. He will also pay just over SEK 240,000 in damages to the girl.

He had previously been convicted of sexual crimes against children. In 2018, he was convicted of aggravated sexual abuse of children. The man had tricked a 12-year-old girl into leaving a bus stop and then raped her under threat of a knife.

The man was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison for this crime. However, he was released prematurely, with a suspended sentence, in September last year. There were seven months of sentence left.
