– We are completely united but it has not been an easy decision but we have been doing anchoring work for a long time. Over the past two months, we have visited with both students and tutors as much as possible. We are aware that not everyone will be happy with the decision. Some people think that it is too early to change schools after the fourth year, but we do it so that we can achieve a better student composition throughout the municipality as soon as possible.
Sofia Andersson Dharsani He is a Social Democrat and Chairman of the Trollhättan Education Committee.
The schools that will close from next fall are Kronanskolan Secondary and Secondary School and Frälsegårdsskolan. Two clearly segregated schools where the proportion of students of foreign origin is high and the proportion of parents with post-secondary education was low. The 300 students will be transferred by bus to five other schools in the municipality.
This is done to obtain a different mix in the schools of students from different socioeconomic areas.
In Trollhättan, the proportion of segregated schools has more than doubled in ten years, from almost 40 percent to about 80 percent. It showed a review that Swedish Radio did in early fall (when they looked at schools where the composition of students stands out from an overall municipality in terms of parental education and foreign background.
The issue will be decided tomorrow in the education committee., where the red-green government has the most votes and host schools’ reactions have been mixed, says Sofia Andersson Dharsani.
– There have been different opinions. It is very heterogeneous, there are those who are very critical and have appeared in the media, but the positive thing is that these opinions have met with resistance, there are many who are sure that of course we must welcome students when they come if they come.
