The discovery of the newborn baby was made in a bathroom at Hamad airport on October 2. Qatar Airways Flight 908 was linked to the finding, which resulted in several female passengers aboard the plane being taken to a waiting ambulance, where they were forced to undergo a gynecological examination in search of the mother.

One of the passengers on board who witnessed the incident told ABC News that the women were taken off the plane regardless of age.

– When the women came back, everyone was very upset and people couldn’t believe what had happened. They told me they had to take off their underwear and then investigated whether they had given birth, Wolfgang Babeck tells the television channel.

Thirteen of the women were Australian citizens and now Australian authorities are harshly criticizing state-owned Qatar Airways. Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne calls the action “extremely offensive and outrageous.”

– I’ve never heard of something like this in my entire life, in any context. “We have expressed our views on this very clearly to the Qatari authorities,” Marise Payne tells ABC News.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also said that the women had contacted the Australian Government at the time of the incident and that the Government had raised the matter with the Qatari Ambassador.

Australia expects a response this week from Qatari authorities, Payne said, adding:

– These are very private and personal issues.

The incident was also reported to the Australian Federal Police, which launched an investigation, Payne told ABC News.

Hamad International Airport writes in a statement that it was the concerns of health professionals about the health of the new mother that was behind the action and that “ people were asked to have access to the specific area of the airport where the baby was found newborn to help in the matter, ” writes Reuters.

The women received medical and psychological support after arriving in Sydney and underwent the mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine required for COVID-19, a spokesman for the New South Wales health authorities told Reuters.

The child is said to be in good health, however the mother must not have been identified yet.
