Heavy finish for Ericsson and Rosenqvist

Sunday’s race on the track in the city of St. Petersburg, Florida, was spectacular.

Scott Dixon finished third in the race, but became champion for the sixth time in his career.

Marcus Ericsson became the best Swede in the last race of the season, when he finished in seventh place.

The Swedes failed in the playoffs and started far back on the field. Then it turned into a messy race with crashes, drifts, mistakes, and other chaos.

Like when Alexander Rossi managed to crash into the protective wall and crash out of the race when he had a clear and seemingly safe lead with only 30 laps to go.

Good speed on Rosenqvist

The most frustrating thing was probably the opposite for Felix Rosenqvist, who made a plate of espionage in the playoffs and started as number 22, was one turn back, when he still put pressure on leader Rossi in several laps.

Twenty laps to the left, Felix Rosenqvist was in twelfth place. Marcus was 13th, but the impressive attendance also reminded the Swedes that they have the talent and speed to get on the podium, with better starting positions.

A somewhat typical end to the season that has been difficult for both Swedes, with one brilliant exception: when Felix Rosenqvist won the race at Road America in Wisconsin.

Nothing is official for the Swedes for next season, but according to various US media reports, Felix will be trading the stables from Chip Ganassi to Arrow McLaren.

Ericsson hopes to stay at Chip Ganassi

Ericsson and Chip Ganassi appear to want to continue their collaboration, even though the stable also recruited Nascar legend and multiple champion Jimmy Johnson.

– There seems to be a mutual interest. I am disappointed with my line of results this year. But I think I have come a long way in my driving here in the United States.

What response have you received from Chip Ganassi?

– They believe in me and my ability. Now I will stay in America for a while until everything is ready for the season.

You’re starting to get a little nostalgic, aren’t you?

– Yes actually. I have not been to Sweden since January due to the crown. I usually go home several times during a season.

– Now my girlfriend Alexandra and I have been mainly at home in Indianapolis. I have hardly dared to walk out the door. We have been to the restaurant twice since March. I have no longer dared to go out for fear of infection. You cannot afford to take sick leave in this world.
