A center-right alliance that has opposed victory in the parliamentary elections in Lithuania shows results when the majority of the votes have been counted in the second round of the elections.
The opposition appears to have succeeded in their strategy in which Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and the ruling Peasant and Environment Party (LVZS) came under fire for handling the crown pandemic.
The Fosterlandsförbundet Christian Democratic Party (TS-LKD), under the leadership of former Finance Minister Ingrida Simonyte, appears to win 49 out of a total of 141 seats in parliament. Now he is expected to form a coalition with two liberal parties that have won twelve and eleven seats respectively.
LVZS seems to be content with 32 seats. The increasing spread of the infection, high unemployment, and rising central government debt are believed to be behind the party’s declining popularity.
