The verdict of the Court of Appeal came last Friday. It was announced that Tishko Ahmed, 23, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for murdering Wilma Andersson, 17.

On the issue of debt, they ratified the sentence of the district court, but on the other hand they reduced the sentence in such a way that they changed the life sentence to 18 years.

In a press release, the Court of Appeal wrote, among other things, that “part of the description of the crime on the nature of the violence that caused his death is unsubstantiated ”.

– The Court of Appeals has reasoned in its own way and I accept it, although I believe that we accumulate aggravating elements, said the prosecutor Jim Westerberg then.

GW: “Details that differ”

The verdict was reported Sunday on TV4’s “Nyhetsmorgon” program, featuring criminology professor Leif GW Persson.

He said the Court of Appeal’s assessment was not a surprise.

– No, it probably wasn’t. You probably guessed it would end up there anyway. There were certain circumstances in connection with this act that are difficult to prove. There, the Court of Appeal for Western Sweden … they chose one more line, as we will call it, legally secure. That this really couldn’t lead to evidence beyond a reasonable doubt. It’s the details that make the difference, says GW Persson on the show.

The professor of criminology emphasizes that the Court of Appeals has not frustrated the legislation, but that those who express it “have been very strict.”

– In this case, if he had now been a judge on the Court of Appeal, I do not think it is too unlikely that he would have rendered this verdict. Not with greater joy, because I believe that what happened is significantly worse than what is left open. But I think it would have ended up there anyway, by virtue of what the legislation looks like and how judicial activity should be handled.

Disappeared last year

It was in November last year that Wilma Andersson, 17, disappeared in Uddevalla.

Thousands of volunteers participated in the search for her, while suspicions quickly turned to her boyfriend from the exhibition, Tishko Ahmed.

Later, a finding was made in her house that allowed to rule out that Wilma was alive. His head was in a bag in a closet.

No other parts of the body have yet been found.

Tishko Ahmed has consistently denied having anything to do with Wilma Andersson’s death.
