The spread of covid-19 has increased in Uppsala county. At the same time, residents with corona symptoms have struggled to find time to take samples, as the laboratory has not had time for all the tests, reports SVT Nyheter Uppsala.

Now the laboratory’s capacity will double, says SVT. The Uppsala region has reached an agreement with the Swedish Public Health Agency to analyze covid tests in a laboratory in Stockholm, starting next week.

Currently, the region analyzes some 5,000 samples per week. The Stockholm lab will finally be able to analyze around 4,000 samples per week.

Johan Lindh, director of the clinical microbiology section at Uppsala University Hospital, also promises greater efficiency at the Uppsala facility.

– We try to develop the methods for a robot to do more and more the work of the staff. At the same time, we are hiring new staff, Johan Lindh tells SVT.

Due to the infection in Uppsala, local general councils have been introduced. Residents are urged to avoid public transportation and physical contact with people other than those with whom they live.
