This year’s GGN gathered around 2,000 drivers at the Tofta shooting range. The fact that it is possible to gather just over 2,000 skiers is because the Tofta shooting range is not counted as a public place. They have also worked with authorities and infection control doctors to “secure the crown” to the competition.
Conny Bohlin, responsible organizer for Nordic Sport & Event, was pleased with this year’s competition, which could be held without an audience and with strict restrictions for drivers and officials.
– Everything has worked very well. Our guards have been around the track and made sure the rules were followed, he says.
It was a really dramatic competition where 25-year-old Mikael Person from Karlskoga claimed his first title with a time of 3.16.33 on the 22-kilometer track that was run in seven laps.
– This victory beats everything else, cheered Mikael as he hung onto the handlebars immediately after the finish.
– I previously won two Swedish championship titles, but winning GGN is a little better.
Mikael had a perfect run over 15+ miles and was always in the lead. Even if it could have ended in a completely different way for the 25-year-old.
– On the fourth lap I rolled over and the bike was a little crooked and crooked. But my team fixed it and then it was just a matter of moving on. My team did a great job and I was able to focus on the actual driving. Most of things went according to plan.
But nothing was Of course, there were actually four drivers who were involved in the outright urban battle for a long time.
Second place Albin Elowson, Skövde, who won GGN 2018, was one of the threats and was among many favorites until the final victory. In the end, Albin was defeated by 20 seconds and finished completely.
– Today I have made too many mistakes, even flipping twice. So given that, I still have to be happy with my second place, he said.
Junior Max Ahlin, Falköping, did a gigantic competition, and he was a long time at the absolute top, but he fell a little at the end and was third, beaten by only 38 seconds by Mikael Persson. Of course, Ahlin won the junior class.
In the elite female class There was a real explosion when only 17-year-old Matilda Ahlström, Skövde, drove like the winner at the Tofta shooting range. She nearly edged out pre-favorite and last two-year champion Hanna Berzelius, Linköping, by just over three minutes.
– This was very unexpected. My absolute greatest success in enduro, said Matilda Ahlström after the finish.
– This victory means a lot to me. Now I’m happy and tired, but I probably have time to celebrate a bit on the boat home from Visby.
