Police suspect that the same people are behind several false alarms about shootings and serious acts of violence in the district in recent months.
– Every day we have a high frequency of what we consider false alarms where everything from shootings to burning cars is alleged. Information that is simply not correct, local deputy chief of police Erik Åberg tells the newspaper.
False alarms on shots
Police confirmed to SVT on Saturday night that they have received several false alarm calls recently.
– We receive false alarms, often in the form of shootings or other events that can cause serious personal injury that we know we prioritize at all times. It takes resources within the command center because an operator must evaluate information based on what the caller says, says Katarina Rusin, a police spokeswoman.
“Resources needed elsewhere”
The operator at the command center asks questions and makes a general assessment of the tasks together with the duty officer. Whenever the command center considers what the caller says credible, the police raise the alarm.
– So many resources are directed there, resources that would have been needed elsewhere.
If the police suspect that it is a false alarm, a false alarm is reported.
– In cases where the false alarm has received large resources and the attention of the police has been directed in the wrong direction, blue light sabotage is reported.
“Recurring problem”
Do the police suspect that the same people are behind?
– I can’t answer that, but I mean researchers. I can’t say anything more than confirm that it is a recurring problem for us with false alarms.
Cost resources
The head of the local police area, Erik Åberg, refers to the secrecy prior to the investigation and for Sydsvenskan he cannot comment on who he suspects is behind the false alarm, but says it costs the police time and resources.
False alarms also affect the conditions to prioritize between alarms.
– Now that we know the phenomenon, we value each call as always. But some of the facts are so spectacularly described that one can guess that they are not true. Regardless, we have to carry out controls in a large number of cases, says Erik Åberg.
