She was locked in a 90×90-centimeter toilet, invisible to the outside world.

But authorities managed to find the 35-year-old woman in Panipat in Haryana in northern India, reports Metro.

Rajni Gupta works with women’s issues and against child marriage in the district, and received an anonymous tip about the case. The team went to the scene on October 15.

– When we got to the house it was open. I found the victim locked in a small bathroom. I could immediately see in her that she hadn’t eaten enough.

There are also physical signs that the woman has been confined for a long time in a small area, according to doctors. When she was released, she had difficulty standing and walking alone.

“He gave us clear answers”

The images show the malnutrition of the woman. Her husband Naresh Kumar denies the accusations and has claimed that the woman had mental health problems for which they sought care and that is why they locked her up. But the health service does not know.

– When we spoke with the victim, she gave us clear answers that went against what her husband said, says Rajni Gupta.

The woman has three children and has been married to the man for 17 years. Police are now investigating the case.

India has been described as one of the worst countries in the world for women. In recent years, a lot of attention has been paid to various cases of abuse and harassment of women. In early October, large-scale protests were organized after two gang rapes in which women died from their injuries.
