It was on March 19 that the ship arrived at the port of Uddevalla from Barranquilla in Colombia. Swedish Customs and the Coast Guard reconnoitred the ship and on the night of March 20 it could be seen when the three men came on board.

Movies from the event show how The three men sneak into the hold and pull out three bags and then get up and out of the ship.

Then, the customs personnel decided to intervene and, after a brief escape attempt, where one of the bags fell into the water, the three men could be arrested. 61.2 kilos of cocaine were found in the bags. Swedish Customs estimates that a seizure of this magnitude, cocaine with a degree of purity of about 80 percent, is worth about 100 million Swedish crowns at the drug level.

The fact that the ship came directly from Colombia was something that caught the attention of Swedish Customs, says Gill Eriksson, deputy head of the criminal customs unit in Gothenburg.

– Most of the ships go through South America to Holland and Belgium and recharge on smaller ships and then go to Sweden. So it is quite rare that they come directly here. It is also the case that a lot of cocaine comes out of there and it is a very good opportunity for the cartels to take the drug to Europe.

Probably the drug to other countries, says Gill Eriksson.

– We have not found anything indicating that it would deliver in Sweden. All three are of Albanian origin and we think it was their job to pick things up and head south.

The three men, born between 1987 and 1995, were charged Thursday with suspicion of extremely serious drug trafficking or extremely serious drug crime.

– These people have no connection with Sweden, but they came here just for that, says Peter Larsson, prosecutor of the National Unit against international and organized crime.

Another person is detained in his absence, suspected of complicity.

– What I suspect is that she participated in the preparation of this by buying aid. So we also think he had the role of who should transport people when drugs were collected, says Peter Larsson.

The evidence against the three men includes surveillance film of the port area and film from a body camera that one of the men placed on his head.

Interrogations show that the man was carrying a camera as a kind of insurance against his client, in case the suitcases were not there at the time and it was suspected that he had taken them.

Who is the client It is not clarified but it is clear that this is international organized crime, says Peter Larsson.

– They are very great values and basically very good contacts are required within the organized world of drugs to be able to overcome such a big party. So that’s our evaluation.

All three men deny the crime. The trial will take place within the next two weeks.
