The large Jamboree21 scout camp that was to be held outside Kristianstad in 2021 was postponed for a year due to the corona pandemic. The camp is expected to gather up to 10,000 Swedes and a couple thousand foreign participants.
Scouting has tried, as far as possible, to remain active during the pandemic and, at the same time, to adapt to reduce the risk of spreading the infection.
Many explorers were looking forward to the big camp next year, the national jamboree held every four years. But the Public Health Agency is clear that society will also be affected in 2021 and restrictions on large crowds are likely to remain in place next summer, Scouts general secretary Anna-Karin Hennig says in a press release. .
“Personally, I think it’s very boring, but it’s the right decision in its entirety and now we can put our efforts into making the jamboree even better in the summer of 2022.”
The camp’s theme is “The dream of a sustainable world.” Elin Jungevi, one of the two leaders of the jamboree, says that the scout movement must focus on making the world even better in two years.
