The party, which took place on October 3, was attended by more than 60 people.
– I found out about the party on Tuesday and immediately had a meeting with the university. Students believe that they are immortal and in doing so they risk their education. Everyone in society has a responsibility when it comes to corona, including students. Now they have to be fine-tuned, says Britt Åkerlind, an infection control doctor in Östergötland.
Very worried
The party students are in their sixth semester of the medical program and are now doing internships in the Östergötland region, the Kalmar region and the Jönköping region. When those responsible for the university’s medical program received information about the incident, they were very upset, according to information to SVT Öst. In an email to students, they write:
“If we contract the infection, patients in health centers and medical clinics throughout the Southeast health region may be affected. These patients will be more seriously ill than you. […] Since health care prioritizes patient safety, there may be a risk that they will not want to accept future apprentices if it is known that students do not follow the recommendations of the authorities ”.
According to information from SVT, one of the students must have tested positive for covid-19.
“Expect a professional approach”
The director of the medical school is also concerned about the students’ party.
– We expect a professional approach to the recommendations of the Swedish Public Health Agency, especially from students at the Faculty of Medicine, says Johan Dabrosin Söderholm, professor and dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Linköping University.
