On Thursday morning it became clear that special recommendations aimed at older people and risk groups would be abolished. But all people over the age of 70 are still considered to be in a risk group; That approach has not changed from the point of view of the Public Health Agency, but the removal of the recommendations is more about individual groups that no longer need special treatment. But what does this mean in practice?

Is it okay to pick up the kids from preschool and take care of them?
– Of course you can pick up the grandchildren, but then it is important that you do not meet many other children at the same time and be very careful that if the grandchildren have a cold and have symptoms that someone else can pick them up, says Anders Tegnell State epidemiologist with the Public Health Agency.
He believes that elders should think like everyone else and keep an arm’s length away from those who are not among the closest.
Should older people hug their children and grandchildren?
– You have to make a case-by-case assessment. You cannot hold and hug as many children as you want. But in the immediate family and if the children are completely healthy, then yes.

According to the report released by the Swedish Public Health Agency on Thursday morning, the recommendations have taken effect, probably reducing the number of serious cases and deaths. But how can those numbers develop now that they are being abolished, the authority has decided not to make a forecast.
– We came to the conclusion that there were so many unknown variables in such a scenario, so we decided not to. Instead, we follow developments very closely to see if there are any changes in that group, says Anders Tegnell.
