Anders Tegnell on family holidays this Christmas

In Thursday night’s “Aktuellt,” state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell received questions from people in his 70s about today’s new announcement that special advice for that group is now being watered down.

One question was about next Christmas and if older people can meet their relatives.

Tegnell has said it will be “a Christmas without big family parties”, but for Expressen he previously clarified that smaller parties with those closest to them are fine.

– A small family party with children and grandchildren, especially if it can be organized so as not to be close and to maintain a distance, does not involve major risks, says Anders Tegnell, in “Aktuellt.

Smaller family parties are fine

On the other hand, larger family parties, with people you might not otherwise know, are still inappropriate, Tegnell says.

But different families have different sizes and host Nike Nylander says the closest circle in some cases can exceed 10-15 people. Anders Tegnell, however, does not want to give a figure for how many can come to the family party.

– First of all, the basic idea is to create as few new contacts as possible. If you have a basic family of 10-15 people, it may be fine, but if you have a basic family with less, it will be a smaller group, says Anders Tegnell, on the show.

Hugs approved, if everyone is healthy

She also says that it is now possible to hug her children and grandchildren, provided they are all completely healthy.

Social Affairs Minister Lena Hallengren (S) also comments on the new guidelines for older people and believes that it is still important to be careful.

– We will all continue to assume a great responsibility. Regardless of whether you are in your 20s, 50s or over 70, you have a great responsibility to take on. We cannot assign an extra large responsibility to those over 70, he says in “Aktuellt”.
