Green light for smaller Christmas celebrations: “A very small risk”

People who are 70 and older can now follow the same crown advice as the rest of society. In Aktuellt on Thursday, Anders Tegnell explains how the message should be interpreted.

Celebrating Christmas with other people is fine, as long as it’s only with close family members.

– A small family party with children and grandchildren, especially if you can keep your distance, certainly does not involve any major risks, he says.

Reasonable with healthy hugs

At the same time, Tegnell warns about important events:

– Big family parties where you meet people you might not otherwise know are still inappropriate.

Can you hug your children and grandchildren now?

– We believe that it is reasonable to take the step towards this type of physical contact, as long as the children are completely healthy, he responds.

Anders Tegnell can’t answer exactly how small a family party should be.

– The idea is to create as few new contacts as possible. If you have a basic family of 10-15 people, then it should be fine, he says.

It’s not the right time this summer

The fact that relief for those over 70 years old has not come sooner is due to the fact that the infection situation has not been very clear, says Tegnell.

– Immediately after the summer, it was not the right time for anything. It wasn’t very clear how the infection would spread during the fall, and then we wanted to see how it developed, he says.

“A group that had a bad time”

Despite the fact that Sweden is now seeing an increase in cases, Tegnell believes that we are in a completely different situation than last spring.

– Despite the fact that we have this increase, we have a completely different distribution in society. So we really think there is room for a group that has had a very difficult time, he says.
