The events took place in mid-March of this year.
It begins with a ship coming from Colombia to the port of Uddevalla, then Swedish Customs and the Coast Guard pay a visit to the ship.
But they also chose to deliberately avoid checking the cargo space and instead installed a guard on the ship.
And then came what was expected, after midnight on March 20, three people showed up and sneaked aboard the ship and into one of the cargo holds.
They dug up three bags before leaving the ship, to be immediately detained by customs personnel.
Filmed the process with a Go Pro
One of the bags was thrown into the sea by one of the suspects, who tried to hide without success.
One of the three men who has now been charged with extremely serious drug trafficking was carrying a Go Pro camera and filmed the whole thing himself.
– Solid evidence in the case is that one of the suspects was carrying a Go Pro camera and filmed the entire process when they came on board and dug up the drugs in the ship’s hold, says Gill Eriksson, deputy director of the criminal customs unit at the Swedish Customs in Gothenburg in a press release.
The seized batch, more than 61 kilos of cocaine, is estimated to be worth around SEK 100 million on the street.
The largest seizure made in Uddevalla
– More than 60 kilos of cocaine is one of the largest seizures made in Uddevalla and we are pleased to have managed to prevent the drug from entering society, says Gill Eriksson, in the press release.
Before the big crackdown in March, Swedish Customs also made another major seizure. Also that time, the seizure referred to cocaine and the batch was then 25 kilos.
There is no suspect, as no person could be linked to drugs.
But that finding made them choose to put guards on the ship that arrived in March and the three men went directly to the trap.
There is another suspect in the case, for having planned and carried out the smuggling, that person is wanted internationally.
