The new Hisingsbron is scheduled to be ready in 2021, with an expected price of SEK 3.65 billion. But this summer, the risk of the project becoming even more expensive for the city of Gothenburg was discovered.
The reason was that the construction company, Skanska MTH, demanded from the city of Gothenburg 345 million SEK for renovations and additional work. The Gothenburg traffic office replied that the additional costs are not their responsibility.
The conflict has been going on for about a year now and the parties have now agreed on an amount.
Gothenburg is forced to pay 200 million Swedish crowns
According to a press release from the city of Gothenburg, Skanska MTH and the city agreed on an amount of 198 million Swedish crowns.
Of that amount, 28 million have already been paid.
– They have been complex negotiations but the dialogue has always been constructive. We are now focusing on completing the bridge, says Per-Ola Svahn, regional manager for Large Projects West, Skanska in the press release.
This spring, Gothenburg’s traffic bureau raised its forecast for the project from 3.5 to 3.65 billion SEK. The increase includes the additional costs associated with the production and delivery of the steel structure to the bridge.
– The additional costs that we have now agreed to are part of the anticipated increase we made this spring, Christer Niland says in the press release.
