On July 15, Reza Hoseini was chased to a bus stopped in Kiruna. There he was killed in front of several passengers and the bus driver. When the police arrived at the scene, a 47-year-old man and his 15-year-old son were arrested. Shortly after, the man’s 17-year-old son was also arrested.

District Attorney Lindha Strömberg is now prosecuting the suspects in Reza Hoseini’s murder.

The motive for the crime According to the prosecutor it must have been to preserve the honor of the family and that the father experienced that his wife had a relationship with Reza Hoseini.

– He (a 47-year-old man) came out and checked her, she was in her job because she worked in the same place as Reza. It has been going on for quite some time. Since then, the mother has received sheltered accommodation in connection with the police report, says Lindha Strömberg.

After the man’s wife moved in, the threats against Reza Hoseini escalated, according to the prosecutor.

In the lawsuit, the prosecutor says that the act was planned.

– That day, the suspects found out when Reza left work. They have been waiting for him, jumping on him and chasing him through the residential area and when he tries to take refuge in the bus, they go on and beat him to death, says Lindha Strömberg.

Reza Hoseini had planned to move from Kiruna to marry his fiancée ten days after the stabbing.

– I think they knew Reza would move. But there is nothing I have found evidence of. But we will say it, says Lindha Strömberg.

Why do you claim it is an honor crime?

– They come from that culture where honor is important and they have talked about it, that honor is important. So it is the case that it is a planned event, there are several perpetrators who are family members and it is very strong violence, says the chamber prosecutor Lindha Strömberg.

The medical examiner has found 99 stab wounds in Reza Hoseini and, according to the prosecutor, the 15-year-old has admitted that he delivered all the stab wounds to the deceased.

– There were at least two knives involved. We found three knives at the site, which have been thrown at the site. The investigation shows that two of them have used knives while the third has been involved in other ways in the planning and execution of the act, says Lindha Strömberg.

The three suspects deny any wrongdoing and claims self defense. The 47-year-old believes he did everything he could to protect himself and his children and rejects the motive for honor.

– He has not been involved in the use of force as stated by the prosecutor. You have tried to avoid the situation. And a riot has erupted in connection with that, says the father’s defense attorney, Frida Larsson.

Jonas Westerlund is a defense attorney for the 15-year-old, who has admitted that he delivered the violence of the deadly knife.

– You think it was an emergency situation. Although he has suffered quite a bit of violence, it was because he was unable to regain consciousness when he saw his father injured, says defense attorney Jonas Westerlund.

He denies that there must be a motive of honor on the part of his client.

– There may have been jealousy on the part of the father before. But it has nothing to do with my client’s actions, says defense attorney Jonas Westerlund.

The 15-year-old also denies that the event was planned.

– My client was not prepared to meet Reza Hoseini during the night. He has long been armed with a knife outside the apartment because he was afraid of him, says defense attorney Jonas Westerlund.

The children are also charged with assault in court after trying to prevent two different people from reporting crimes and providing information during interrogations, with threats of violence.

On the same day of the incident, the 47-year-old father was charged with illegal threats against another man. It is said that he threatened the plaintiff by writing “I warn you for the last time that if you meet my wife again or even if you talk to her, I know what to do with you.”

In June, the father was also charged with sexual harassment against two children under the age of 15.

The prosecutor demands the deportation of the father.
