The vaccine is being developed in collaboration with Astra Zeneca.

A person died in Brazil who participated in the study by the pharmaceutical company Astra Zeneca and the University of Oxford on a vaccine against the coronavirus, says the Brazilian health authority Anvisa.

However, the vaccine study will be allowed to continue, according to Anvisa, which has not provided further information about the incident with reference to confidentiality.

The vaccine is being developed by the University of Oxford together with the Swedish-British Astra Zeneca. Oxford University says in a statement that an investigation into the death does not show any deficiencies in safety and Astra Zeneca writes in a comment to TT that all necessary investigation processes have been followed:

“All major medical events are carefully evaluated by researchers, an independent safety committee, and regulators. These evaluations have not raised any concerns about continuing the ongoing study.”

Sources tell Bloomberg News that the person who died was part of the placebo group and therefore did not receive the vaccine.
