Corona infection has accelerated rapidly in Malmö primary schools. After a management meeting on Wednesday, Anders Malmquist, director of the compulsory school, announces that in most of the compulsory schools there are a couple of employees and a student with an active covid-19 infection.

At a press conference on Wednesday morning, Skåne infection control doctor Eva Melander spoke about a sharp increase in COVID-19 cases in Skåne.

The directors of the Malmö primary school administration have the same image, after a meeting shortly afterwards.

On Wednesday morning, the primary school principal, Anders Malmquist, only knew that two out of a total of 34,000 students in all Malmö primary schools had been found infected, since last spring.

Management team meeting in The elementary school administration at lunchtime on Wednesday changes that picture dramatically.

– Now we see a clear increase, says Malmquist.

He cannot give figures, but estimates that there are now a couple of employees and some students with active infection in most of Malmö’s primary schools.

– There is also a secret here. You are not required to report why you are sick. And there is a dark figure, says the principal of the elementary school.

He perceives that the spread of the infection has increased rapidly and is hopeful that next week’s fall holidays can ease the situation.

– We emphasize the importance of following restrictions on distance and hand hygiene and we strive not to hold meetings that do not have to be held in schools.

All employees and students with any symptoms of illness must take sick leave and stay home.

Could closing schools be relevant?

– If there is a lot of propagation in an individual school, it may be relevant to close there. This is the action we can finally take, in consultation with infection control.

But Anders Malmquist points out that compulsory schooling still applies to all people who have no symptoms.

The fact that the infection has spread rapidly in Malmö schools is confirmed by Anna Olin, head of operations under the Medical and Health Services Act in the health of medical students in the compulsory school administration.

– We have the attitude that there is now a widespread expansion of society in Malmö. So we must expect there to be isolated cases in all schools, he says.

Is information sent to parents if there is an infection in their children’s schools?

– We discuss how such information can be made objectively and correctly.

Can you give a more accurate picture of the spread in schools?

– Not today [onsdag] For example, three schools in completely different parts of the city have heard of an infected student at each school. It is very widespread and we do not have exact figures, says Anna Olin.
