Gällivare is once again experiencing a spread of covid-19 and had the highest incidence in the county during week 42. Stock photo.
Over the past three weeks, a total of 23 new covid-19 cases have been added in Gällivare, and of the last 13 cases during week 42, the majority are in the mining industry, writes the municipality of Gällivare on its website . This means that Gällivare has the highest incidence in the county, that is, the number of infected per 1,000 people, 0.74 per 1,000 during the previous week.
For a couple of weeks in June, Gällivare was also the first Swedish city outside of metropolitan regions to experience a wide spread of the coronavirus.
The corona eruption in June occurred a month after mining giant LKAB carried out a maintenance stop, when contractors from across the country and abroad stayed on site.
LKAB will also initiate a 24-hour maintenance shutdown on Wednesday, when around 100 incoming contractors are expected to arrive at hotels and campsites in the area.
To prevent the spread of the infection, the municipality of Gällivare urges residents to take special care in the community in the coming days.
