Over the past three years, a lot has happened within the walls of GP’s editorial office. New hires, a clear investment in editorial content, and increased subscriber numbers mean GP can now take the next step. This is done, among other things, through an expanded editorial office in Stockholm.
– Gothenburg is Sweden’s second largest city and the region is one of the most cultivated in the country, but this is rarely noticed in national media news coverage, with this investment we ensure that Gothenburgers get coverage from the West Swedish perspective they deserve, says GP editor-in-chief Christofer Ahlqvist.
Initially, there are three services that will be stationed in the center of the capital. Thus, three reporters will be employed: one focused on the news, one on economics and one on politics.
Greater investment
– Many Gothenburg residents have GP as their main source of news and therefore we will now be even better at following up on national issues in general and national issues with the support of Western Swedes in particular. A lot of political and business decisions are made in Stockholm and we need to be close to them and say what the consequences will be for our readers on the West Coast, says GP editor-in-chief Christofer Ahlqvist.
The Stockholm editorial office is part of a larger investment involving a total of five new hires, but the other two will be based in Gothenburg along with the other 100-plus writers already at GP. They are a news editor and a finance editor.
It is the successes of recent years that allow GP to make this major investment, which was demonstrated at last week’s Orvestomätning, where GP, as the only metropolitan newspaper, continued to increase its reach.

GP’s focus on quality journalism has recently attracted attention in many places. In September, Michael Verdicchio won the prestigious Gold Spade for the second year in a row, this year for his review of militant activists for animal rights. SVT recently purchased GP’s crown documentary “Hundred Days” and our acclaimed podcast series “Sisters” is nominated for the Radio Academy Golden Ear Award in the “Newcomer of the Year” category.
