The new building had an ocean view when an entire beach forest was cleared and hundreds of trees at Tylösand in Halmstad had to give way. The main suspect, a landowner, is now convicted of inciting serious damage and must pay damages to the Halmstad municipality of half a million crowns, local media report.

Another person is sentenced to a fine for having helped in the logging.

According to the indictment, the logging involved just over 300 trees, and initially four people were prosecuted: the main defendant, who owns a plot in the area, and three other people who are prosecuted for participation.

The Halmstad municipality demanded damages of around SEK 20 million for the devastation. The defendants have denied wrongdoing.
