It has been almost 70 years since a woman was executed at the federal level in the United States.

The motive for the horrific act is still unknown, but police believe it may be related to a mishap Montgomery went through. According to her husband, she told police that she had previously told people that she was pregnant, although nothing was true.

In 2007, a jury found Lisa Montgomery guilty of federal kidnapping that resulted in her death. The jury unanimously recommended the death penalty as a sanction.
Montgomery’s attorney said during the trial that she should not be sentenced to death as she suffered brain damage after being abused as a child.
The experts who have examined Montgomery believe that at the time of the crime he was living a long time with psychosis, bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
But these arguments did not help and Montgomery was sentenced to death.
