Evo Morales wants to return to Bolivia after socialist victory

It was a resounding victory for Luis Arce in the elections in Bolivia this weekend. According to a preliminary result, the left-wing nationalist candidate received 52.4 percent of the vote, against the center-right candidate Carlos Mesa, who received 31.5 percent.

This means that the socialist Mas party can regain power.

Now the former socialist leader Evo Morales, exiled in Argentina, also wants to return to his home country. He was ousted from power last fall after violent protests and accusations of electoral fraud.

“Return”

“Sooner or later we will return to Bolivia, there is no doubt about that,” the former president said, according to the AFP news agency.

In addition, he says that his greatest “wish” is to return.

– It’s just a matter of time.

Although the election result has not been confirmed by the electoral authority, Luis Arce has been congratulated by the interim president of Bolivia, right-wing politician Jeanine Áñez.

“I congratulate the winners and ask them to rule with Bolivia and democracy in mind,” he said in a statement, according to the BBC.

Morales himself was unable to stand in the elections, but has given his support to former Finance Minister Luis Arce.
