Victoria’s Prime Minister Daniel Andrews notes that at least 65 travelers from New Zealand have arrived in the state.
At least 65 travelers from New Zealand have traveled to Melbourne, Australia, even though the city and state of Victoria are not part of the travel bubble created between neighboring countries.
– We don’t like him right away. We were asked “do you want to be in a travel bubble?” And then it turns out that we are, even though we said no, says Daniel Andrews, Prime Minister of the Australian state of Victoria, during a press conference.
On Friday, Australia’s borders, which have been largely closed since March, were opened to travelers from New Zealand. However, the travel bubble created between the countries only applies to travel from New Zealand and the Australian state of News South Wales and the Northern Territory.
But this weekend it emerged that several of the first travelers who had landed in Sydney in New South Wales had later traveled to Melbourne in Victoria, which concerned authorities. Melbourne, and the entire state of Victoria, are not part of the bilateral agreement between neighboring countries.
With today’s temporary rules, people coming from abroad cannot go to Melbourne. At the same time, it is allowed to enter Victoria from the state of New South Wales without being quarantined.
A total of 65 travelers from New Zealand to Victoria have arrived in recent days, Andrews says. Of these, 55 have been obtained.
– Another 17 flights land in Melbourne today that may have New Zealand passengers arriving via Sydney, says and continues:
– I will not quarantine people who come from areas with low virus risk, we just have to make the most of this.
