Several flights have been forced to turn around: snow chaos in northern Sweden

Three planes heading to Luleå from Stockholm had to turn in the air due to the snowstorm.

– The plane flew back to Stockholm and landed there, says Ellen Laurin, press release in Sweden.

Several flights to and from Luleå have been canceled overnight.

– Here it is very abandoned, but at the same time you can see what the weather looks like and the situation on the slopes, says SVT reporter Erika Larsson on the site of Luleå airport where, among other things, an entire football team stayed stranded overnight on Sunday.

– It is simply difficult for the plane to stay on the runways.

Come as a surprise

The weather has also driven the people of Norrbotten to bed, says Erika Larsson.

– The leaves have not yet fallen from the trees, so today you wake up in the winter land of the world.

It is currently unclear how many passengers have been affected. Problems with canceled departures may continue tomorrow, but Swedavia has not yet provided clear information.

According to the information, air traffic to Umeå was unaffected around 7pm on Sunday evening.

Many traffic accidents

In car traffic, however, the entry into snow has been palpable, of which the rescue service in Skellefteå has taken note. They warn all road users about difficult road conditions.

– It’s snowing and blowing! It is muddy and slippery on the roads. Take it easy in traffic now. If you have summer tires, you shouldn’t go outside, then you should stay home, says Ola Lindström, internal commander.

SOS has detected several traffic accidents in the north of the country during the day. Most are one-time accidents, and at 8 p.m. no one was seriously injured.
