The weekend came with the first snow of autumn in several places in Sweden. Most of the snow was measured in Markusvinsa, in the municipality of Pajala, where it fell 15 centimeters.
– There will surely be observations tonight or tomorrow morning that suggest more snow than that, says Lasse Ryqvist, a meteorologist at the Storm Meteorological Institute.
SMHI has issued class 1 warnings in Norrbotten and Västerbotten counties due to snow. The images from Piteå and Skellefteå show white streets and houses covered in snow.
– Since then, some snowflakes have fallen towards Ångermanland and Jämtland, says Lasse Rydqvist.
So the snow pulls south
According to the meteorologist, the snow is expected to remain in the northernmost areas of the country. Closer to the coast of Norrland, however, it may melt on Monday, when snow turns to rain.
But already for Tuesday a new low pressure is expected. You can go to Uppland, Västmanland and Värmland.
– Monday will be a midday where there are good chances of sun in southern Sweden and less wind. But on Tuesday it looks like we will have a fairly extensive low pressure. It can give a mix of snow and rain mixed with snow, says Lasse Rydqvist.
Ice and sleet hazard
Milder temperatures are expected again on Wednesday and Thursday. And the shift between cold and light hazards leads to slippery roads. This applies mainly to northern Sweden, but there are also reasons to be careful in Uppland, Västmanland and Värmland.
– We have slippery snow in North Norrland now and Monday. Then when the next low pressure hits on Tuesday and Wednesday, there may be a risk of snow ice and local ice.
