Degerfors has been on the rails during this year’s Superettan season. Before today’s match against Öster in Växjö, they had won 15 matches, crossed five and only lost two. But then Öster attacked.

Just before the break, defender Filip Örnblom made it 1-0 for home team Öster. On a free kick from a distance, Mattias Pavic sent a cross into Degerfors’ penalty area. At the post, the 21-year-old came on top and headed 1-0 behind Ismael Diawara in Degerfors goal.

The 2-0 came five minutes into the second half. Öster’s outside midfielder Carl Johansson came in from the left edge with a solo foray, before a Degerfors defender fouled him in the box. The referee awarded a penalty and Örnblom stepped to the penalty spot and certainly made it 2-0 with his second goal of the match.

The result stood out from the match and Degerfors lost for the first time at Superettan since 29 August, when they lost away to Halmstad.

Degerfors retains his first place in the Superettan, but runner-up Halmstad is getting closer and closer after his win against Brage on Saturday and is now just three points behind. On Öster’s side, they keep their control in fourth place and have five points to fifth Acropolis.

Next, Degerfors meets Örgryte at home, while Öster faces Umeå.
