Sara Héctor is 3.18 seconds behind Italian leader Marta Bassino and is in 17th place when 30 skiers drove the first race.
Estelle Alphand dropped to goal 4.07 from the lead, seven places behind Hector on the preliminary results list.
– Right now I’m mad at myself. Today has been difficult and we have not had such a strong training in the preseason. I didn’t see anything in the fog either, Alphand tells SVT.
“Frustrated”
Hector then did not appear on the microphone for the SVT interview:
– We tried to contact Sara Hector, but she was so disappointed that she ran away and not even the coaches caught her, says Therese Bosta, SVT reporter.
SVT finally got hold of the Swede who was really disappointed after the first race.
– No but I don’t know, it starts very bad and then I became passive and so it continued all the way down. It is actually perfect snow, very pleasant to drive, but I drove very badly. It’s sad. In fact, it has gone very well in training and sometimes it is so difficult to compete … I don’t know … Oh, it’s frustrating when it is like this, Hector tells SVT Sport.
Italian double on top
The competitions in Sölden are held without an audience and with strict restrictions to reduce the risk of crown spread. Today’s women’s giant slalom is followed by men’s competition in the same discipline tomorrow.
He’s double Italian at the top after the first race. Italian Bassino leads 58 percent ahead of Federica Brignone, with Norway’s Mina Fürst Holtmann in third place.
Three other Swedes with higher starting numbers; Sara Rask, Jonna Luthman and Hanna Aronsson Elfman compete in Sölden.
The competitions in Sölden are, as usual, an anticipated premiere at the World Cup. But then it takes almost a month until the next competition, in Lech, Austria. Competitions typically held in North America early in the season are canceled due to the pandemic.
The second race starts at 1 pm
