Two shootings took place in Södetälje last night.

Two shootings took place in Södertälje last night.

A man has died. Another man is seriously injured.

Police are investigating whether there is any connection between the shootings.

Shortly after 02:30, the police and an ambulance were called to Hovsjö in Södertälje after several calls that a person had been shot. The gunshot wounded man was found seriously wounded and taken to hospital where he later died.

Now a major police operation is underway in the area, including by helicopter.

– We have two people detained, I cannot say more than that right now, says Per Fahlström, press spokesman for the Stockholm Police.

The crime scene is cordoned off and a technical investigation will be conducted.

The man’s relatives have been notified.

Earlier in the evening, the police were also called when a man wounded by a gunshot was admitted to the emergency room of a hospital in Södertälje.

– Hospital staff called about a 00.45 gunshot wound. We have launched a preliminary investigation into an extremely serious assault. We have found a possible outdoor crime scene, says Per Fahlström.

One person has been arrested on suspicion of shooting.

Currently, gunshot wounds are not considered life threatening.

Do you see any connection between the shootings?

– We look at that very carefully, of course. It is still too early to draw such conclusions, but in both cases extensive research work is underway, says Per Fahlström.
