It was an explosive charge that detonated and ignited a car parked in Staffanstorp early Wednesday morning. Shows preliminary police investigation.
Police forensic technicians and bomb technicians at the Järnvägsgatan site in Staffanstorp after a car fire and suspected explosion early Wednesday morning.
The car was parked in Järnvägsgatan, in the center of Staffanstorp. Several people were awakened by the blast and called and alerted.
The emergency services and the police went directly to the scene and extinguished the fire. Pump technicians and forensic scientists were also dispatched to investigate what caused the accident.
At the time, it was not yet clear if it was an explosive charge or if the fire may have occurred in some other way.
Now, two days later, the police are convinced it was a bomb attack.
– The preliminary conclusion reached by our technicians is that it was some kind of explosive charge placed next to or on the car. The explosion then caused it to ignite, says preliminary investigation leader Patrik Nykvist and continues:
– The residents have perceived an explosion and when they look outside, they see that the car burns a lot.
At the time of the explosion there was people sleeping in a house a few meters from the parked car. However, none of them have suffered physical injuries.
– Now we are working to question people and try to clarify the motive and any threats, says Patrik Nykvist.
