This weekend, snow falls over North Norrland.

SMHI has issued a Class 1 snow warning in the interior of Norrbotten County, as there may be more than 5 to 10 centimeters of snow in a short time beginning Saturday morning.

There is also the risk of “large amounts of snow” along the coast in Norrbotten and Västerbotten counties.

The snowy weather is expected to intensify as it moves east on Sunday, according to the Storm Meteorological Institute.

– Norrbotten and Västerbotten are affected overnight until Sunday and can receive significantly higher amounts during the day. It can give one to two decimeters of fresh snow, says meteorologist Lasse Rydqvist.

“Really uncomfortable”

Locally, it can be even higher, as the wind can create snowdrifts.

– You can give quite large quantities locally. It is not impossible to obtain up to three decimeters locally, when large drifts are formed. It will certainly be a really difficult climate. Both when large drifts can form on the roads and where people live.

According to Rydqvist, these are the first snow warnings and the first large amounts outside the mountain world for the season.

– It could also be the first snow of the season until Uppland on Monday. It’s right on the border, but it would still mark it a bit.

SMHI warns of risky snowfalls in various parts of the country overnight and tomorrow.
