Ghabe
Directed by Markus Castro, with Adel Darwish, Nathalié Williamsdotter, Ahmad Fadel, Lena B Eriksson.
MOVIE REVIEW. Some Syrian immigrants spend a summer in the Swedish peasant visch.
There is a culture and love shock when one of them meets a Swedish woman.
DRAMA. Movie titles ghabe means forest in Arabic. And it is in the middle of the old Swedish spruce forest where Monir (Adel Darwish), one of the 160,000 asylum seekers who arrived in Sweden in 2015, ends. He is constantly plagued with nightmares about how the rest of his family exploded in the Syrian civil war. With him is Farid (Ahmad Fadel |), an older relative who doesn’t like that much.
They and some other asylum seekers have been allowed to borrow a house during the summer, pending notification of a residence permit. The locals are suspicious of the newcomers. Monir watches how the Swedes are super, sings “Små frogorna” during the summer weekend and how the beautiful women bathe naked in the local lake. Eventually a friendship and perhaps love arises a little too soon along with one of the naked women who bathe, Moa (Nathalié Williamsdotter).
Seldom has the Swedish countryside been as beautiful as in Carl P. Rasmussens images. Y Markus Castro The debut film is not only perfect in its form, it has also attracted good play from inexperienced actors. Even Robinson’s celebrity Martin Melin he’s good as a cop.
“Ghabe” is a beautiful, poetic, and thought-provoking story about how conversation, closeness, and love can break down prejudices between different cultures.
