The alarm about a fire at Folkets Hus en Orminge in the Nacka municipality on the outskirts of Stockholm came at 04:15 on Thursday.
It is a wooden building on two levels, measuring approximately 20 times 50 meters.
– There is too much fire in the building itself. Now the roof construction has started to give way, which means that we can no longer make the object extinction. So the fire will probably spread to the entire building, says Patrick Johansson, operations chief of the Södertörn fire service at 0640.
There is also the risk of spreading to the center of Orminge and Boo parish, which is nearby.
“Probably burned for a while”
When the rescue service arrived at the scene, flames were already burning through the roof and it is unclear what started the fire.
– All we know is that when we arrived it had burned through the ceiling, so it had probably burned for a while before the alarm went off, says Patrick Johansson.
Seven fire stations with around 40 people are on the scene and taking part in the extinguishing work.
Police expect to be at the scene throughout the morning.
