Last week, the government said no to raising the audience limit from 50 to 500 people due to the increasing spread of the infection in Sweden. The decision concerned sand sports and seated audiences. But outside the stadiums, the big exercise races are still waiting, among other things, for a possible loosening of restrictions and answers on whether the events can be held.
The government has long talked about reviewing the issue. But last week, the Public Health Agency had not yet received the promised allocation, CEO Johan Carlson told DN, something that was later criticized, among others, by the Vasaloppet organizer.
“It’s actually a bit sad that they didn’t start that process,” said Johan Eriksson, acting executive director of the classic ski race.
Wednesday received however, the authority is formally charged with reviewing general advice and recommendations for, among other things, exercise and outdoor sports activities.
The allocation must be reported to the government on an ongoing basis, initially on November 1 and December 1, respectively.
– It is good that the government is now taking another step. But it is going too slow, says Björn Eriksson, president of the Swedish Sports Confederation, in a press release.
– Here, the government should provide the opportunity for sports to offer competition safely for the forests, on the road and in the water that is infection proof. It is extremely important to our public health and must be done urgently.
Sports Minister Amanda Lind (MP) says in a government press release:
– We must limit the spread of infection, but restrictions must not be more intrusive than necessary and must not last longer than necessary. The government wants to ease the current restrictions as soon as possible.
