Dag Ellingsen at the Police Academy and Professor Ulla-Britt Lilleaas at the Center for Interdisciplinary Gender Research in Norway, are the two researchers behind the report that warns of systematic sexual harassment in police training.

According to the report, male instructors must have used their position of power vis-a-vis female students and thus obtained higher grades in exchange for sexual services.

– A terrible example. It is important that we now review this from top to bottom. It should be safe to work in the police and it should be safe to study at the police academy, says Norwegian Justice Minister Monica Mæland according to Dagbladet.

She continues:

– I didn’t know, but it’s unacceptable. An abuse is too much, and this is not how we should have it within the Norwegian police.

Minister of Justice: “Fuck-Thursday” must be eliminated

During the third year of police training, students undergo a type of operational training during camp-type stays. It is during these “camps” that the phenomenon of “Fuck Thursdays” has emerged, where instructors are said to have exploited students.

– I hope the term “fucking Thursday” is a thing of the past. I will raise this with the Director of Police to hear what we politicians can do. I think there are a lot of formalities and it’s about attitudes and creating a safe culture and a good work environment. Some are on the right track, others have a lot to learn, Monica Mæland tells Dagbladet.
