The World Bank has approved $ 12 billion in funding to purchase and distribute covid-19 vaccines in developing countries.

The money, which corresponds to just over SEK 106 billion, is believed to be enough to test, vaccinate and treat 1 billion people.

According to the World Bank, the support is part of a larger package of up to $ 160 billion that will be distributed through June next year in support of the corona pandemic.

“This support package sends a signal to the world of research and the pharmaceutical industry that residents of developing countries also need a safe and effective vaccine against COVID-19,” wrote World Bank Governor David Malpass, it’s a statement.

“(The package) will also provide access to financing and technical assistance so that countries can prepare for widespread distribution of the vaccine, coordinated with international partners.”

In an interview with Frenchman Fig Figo, Malpass says that action is needed now, before a vaccine is ready, as distribution can get complicated.
