Next week, the restraining order may be reintroduced in some nursing homes, shopping centers will be closed, and other local restrictions will be introduced to reduce the spread of covid-19.
This was announced by the Swedish Public Health Agency during Tuesday’s press conference.

“I think it’s good that the opportunity exists,” says Mikael Köhler, director of health and medical care at Uppsala.
The public health authority has decided to introduce a temporary local tightening of the general councils, in the hopes of reducing the spread of the infection and reducing the rates of covid-19 infection that are increasing in the country.
– It is an opportunity for the Public Health Agency to decide in consultation with infection control doctors that certain measures can be taken, said Bitte Bråstad, General Counsel of the Public Health Agency, during Tuesday’s press conference.
– We can, for example, decide whether to refrain from using public transport, visiting special homes, not visiting shopping centers if it is not necessary, being in an indoor environment where many people gather. It may be refraining from restaurant visits and physical contact with people you don’t live with.
Visits ban not applicable
In Uppsala, which is one of the worst affected areas at the moment, Mikael Köhler, director of health and medical care, does not rule out local restrictions.
– There may definitely be a need for local guidelines, because we don’t want to shut down more than necessary. I think this is great. It gives us the opportunity to act when necessary, he says.
– Something that has always concerned us is the situation of the weakest, the most vulnerable, the elderly. This is where they live that we don’t want any disease to enter.
Even though several nursing homes have received COVID-19 since the restraining order was lifted on October 1, it is not relevant to reintroduce it locally at this time, according to the director of health care.
– No, I wouldn’t want to say that right now.
“Disturbing spread of infection”
Had the Swedish Public Health Agency relaxed restrictions regarding public gatherings last week, it might have been relevant with other guidelines in Uppsala, starting on October 19, when local guidelines can be implemented.
– If they had been opened to collections over 500, it would probably have acted given the situation we were in then, says the health director.
– And the spread of the infection remains worrying. We have had the first two deaths today for a long time and now that the spread of the infection is increasing, so are the deaths and it is very sad.
However, it is silent on when, where or how local restrictions can be introduced in the county.
