In the past ten days, the number of corona infections in Malmö health and care has doubled, from ten to twenty. On Tuesday, senior management decided that all staff should wear mouth guards on all close contacts.
– We know that social infection is increasing in Skåne and Malmö, says Head of Unit Pia Nilsson.

This weekend, Sydsvenskan was able to report that three of Malmö’s 41 special houses were affected by crown outbreaks, with more than one infected per resident.

Family members of the visits have been informed and discouraged.

The worst situation this weekend was in the Rönnen nursing home, with seven infected.

According to Pia Nilsson, who leads the work against the coronavirus in Malmö care and nursing, the infection situation is almost the same on Tuesday.

Malmö’s health, care and welfare administration is the largest in Sweden, with more than 10,000 Malmö residents receiving help and support from around 5,000 employees.

Among all Malmö residents receiving home care, living in short-term housing or special housing, the number of infected people has doubled in the last ten days. About ten infected people have turned into about twenty.

On Tuesday, the administration’s management team decided that all staff should wear mouth guards in all face-to-face contacts.

– Mouth guards should always be worn, for example, if staff help someone with eye drops or in a food situation. This applies in all situations where you are within one meter of distance, says Pia Nilsson.

The message begins broadcast to staff on Tuesday afternoon. The goal is for the new rules to be clear as of Wednesday morning.

The city of Malmö has made the decision based on Smittskydd Skåne’s recommendations.

– This is an additional precaution to prevent the infection from reaching our elderly.

Pia Nilsson claims that the administration has a lot of oral protection and that protection is now largely dispatched in all operations.

Do you see any connection between the further spread of the infection and the fact that the accommodation was opened for visits on October 1?

– From what I have received, it has worked very well since we opened for visits. There are handwashing and spray stations in every home, says Pia Nilsson.

She notes that the rules that have been in effect since last spring still apply:

• Keep your distance.

• Be careful about hand hygiene.

• Staff and visitors should stay home with the slightest sign of illness.
