IVO review of “Little Heart” completed

Social services took over “Little Heart” in the spring of 2016, just days after she was born. Soon after, the administrative court decided that the girl should be forcibly cared for and placed in a family home.

Months before the girl’s second birthday in 2018, the biological parents requested that compulsory care be stopped and that the girl be returned to them. However, the Social Welfare Board advised against this and the administrative court rejected the parents’ demands.

The parents appealed the decision and in spring 2019 the Jönköping appeal court decided that compulsory care would cease; ten months later, the girl was found dead.

Message on Tuesday

Norrköping Municipality has examined the social services handling of the “Little Heart” case and found no serious deficiencies.

Despite this, the Swedish Health and Care Inspectorate (IVO) has conducted its own review of the municipality’s actions.

The result will be presented at a press conference at 10 am on Tuesday.

“Another betrayal of her”

In August, the girl’s biological mother was sentenced to 21 months in prison for causing the death of another person and drug-related crimes.

“Little Heart” adoptive mother Melinda Jacobs hopes the verdict will be appealed.

“I think it’s another betrayal for her,” adoptive mother Melinda Jacobs wrote in a text message to Expressen after the verdict was rendered.

“I was hoping that the district court would follow the prosecutor’s line and convict her of murder. Now, of course, I hope the verdict will be appealed to the Court of Appeal.”
